Stream of Digressions On Becoming That Dude With A Screenplay (Again)

 

spent a block of April putting together an honest-to-god screenplay, titled FIEND LEPER. The idea sprung from the prose anthology collection I'm currently working on (CAROTID OCTOPUS), where a series of unsolved crimes is attributed to a shadowy character known as "Fiend Leper". Not sure if anything will ever come out of it, but it just hit me one day, and I had to get it all down. I suppose this blog post is like that too. 

Synopsis: Follows “Fiend Leper” as he captures and commits various infractions, intermittently breaking the fourth wall to orate misanthropic harangues. 

Plot: frustrated with the weak submission pool for the latest volume of Velocity Magazine (his series of mixtapes), FL stalks his own customers, attacking them on camera after they watch one of his videos. Since they’re on his mailing list, he has their addresses. He shows up at their doors, barges in, and makes them watch the video. He films them watching the video together, then brutalizes the consumer. Lather, rinse, repeat. The footage becomes an endless mirrored hallway. 

The script in its current form runs about 35 pages. It started out as worship, but eventually evolved into a bit of a referendum on habitual consumption and creation of transgressive underground media in any and all of its forms. It's not super-gory or very FX heavy really... tried to keep it as minimal and rooted in reality as possible, while still allowing for the occasional surrealist flourishes.

Were this project to ever be realized beyond the script, I envision a soundtrack that pulls from the Crucial Blast catalog, as I have a long-time correspondence and deep appreciation for what Adam does over there.
